Retainer Instructions
Wear instructons:
- Recommended wear time is a minimum of 8 hours of continuous wear at night.
- If this is the first time you’re wearing retainers after completing your teeth straightening with clear aligners, we recommend all day wear for the first three weeks – wearing your retainers 22 hours per day. After the first three weeks, your retainers can be worn only at night.
- When you’re not wearing your retainers, be sure to store them somewhere safe. Keep away from pets and children.
- As a reminder, each set of retainers lasts 6 months before needing to be replaced. Your next set of retainers can be ordered on our website, or you can sign up for a subscription to make it even easier to make sure you get your custom retainers on-time.
Cleaning instructions:
- Rinse After Use: After removing your clear retainer, rinse it under lukewarm water to remove any saliva or food particles. Avoid using hot water, as it can warp the plastic.
- Brush Gently: Use a soft-bristled toothbrush and a non-abrasive soap or mild toothpaste to gently scrub the retainer. Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners, as they can scratch the surface of the retainer.
- Soak in Retainer Cleaner: Occasionally, soak your retainer in a retainer cleaning solution or a mixture of equal parts water and white vinegar for about 15-20 minutes. This helps to disinfect and remove any stubborn stains.
- Avoid Hot Water: Never use hot water to clean your clear retainer, as it can deform the plastic and ruin its shape.
- Regular Maintenance: Clean your retainer at least once a day to prevent plaque buildup and odors. Consistent maintenance will keep your retainer looking and feeling fresh.
- Avoid Harsh Chemicals: Avoid using harsh chemicals like bleach or alcohol-based mouthwashes to clean your retainer, as they can damage the plastic.
